Understanding Pug Health Problems

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 2:33 am

Understanding the characteristics of your dog’s breed will allow you to care for your best friend easier and more thoroughly because you are aware of any potential health risks. It can positively impact their well-being, especially in their older years because you the prevention you have taken will result in fewer health problems.

One dilemma which a lot of canines will encounter is hip dysplasia, especially a problem for bigger pets, but pugs can also be prone to have this problem. Hip Dysplasia occurs when there is some malformation of the hip joint and the femur bone does not fit correctly, which can cause the dog a lot of pain and in severe cases the dog may need surgery or have to be put down. Cases that are less serious are less of a problem to treat and typically need a good nutritional basis and normal exercise.

If the pug’s nostrils are narrow or constrained, he has a problem called “stenotic nares,” which can strain his body and lead to an enlarged heart. Breathing from the mouth and a foamy type discharge may be indications of this problem and can be fixed with surgery.

A problem in which the pet’s eyelids will roll in making the lashes to rub irritably against the pet’s eyes is termed entropion, and is an important health concern because it can facilitate other issues such as ulcerations, scratches and irriation of the pet’s eyes which only makes a bad situation worse. The condition can be corrected by surgery, which is the most common form of treatment, but noticing the problem and taking care of it can be very critical to your pug’s health and well being.

Dry Eyes is another condition that can fairly commonly occur in pugs. Dry Eyes is a deficiency in producing enough tears to keep their eyes nice and lubricated. There are a few things that can cause the tear ducts not to produce enough tears, blockage of the duct, failure of the tear ducts or lack of nerve stimulation to the tear ducts, and treatment is dependent upon how severe the condition is.

Demodectic skin mites is a common problem among many dogs and comes in two forms. In the first type, namely localized demodectic mange, which is that which shows up in tiny areas of skin minus hair, is found in canines less than one year old. The second form is generalized demodectic mange, which appears in one large patch of hairless but healthy looking skin and can appear in a dog of any age.

There are many more health conditions that you should look out for if you own or intend to own a pug, so if you suspect that your dog has any of the problems listed above or problems that may not be listed make an appointment with your vet and have your dog evaluated.

Canine Bladder Infection Natural Treatments

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 6:28 am

Canine Bladder Infection Symptom is one of the most common problems in pets such as dogs and cats. This kind of infection may bring along with it a number of symptoms which may or may not be readily visible to the attention of the pet owner. As a result, most pets suffer from the infection long enough before they are given proper treatment.

There are several factors that could lead to Canine Bladder Infection Symptoms. These factors can include lifestyle, diet, and amount of water intake. You may not know it but the lifestyle your pet is leading could contribute to the onset of health problems. If your pet lacks exercise, there are bigger chances for it to contract diseases. Exercise is good not only for humans but for animals as well. The benefits of exercise to man is the same with animals. Thus, it would be advisable to take your pet out for a walk regularly.

Are you feeding your canine friend commercial food? Pets have all the chances of contracting health problems when they are always fed with commercial food. This kind of food may contain ingredients that can contribute to health problems in animals. Typically, commercial food contains grains, additives and preservatives. Too much grain in a diet can lead to changes in the pH level of urine and may lead to urinary problems. To avoid this from happening in your pet, give it organic food instead of commercial pet food. You may also concoct your own homemade recipe that may contain all the essential nutrients required for a healthy body. Your pet will surely enjoy good health with healthy diet!

Another reason why chronic bladder infections in canines occur is the lack of liquid in the body. Pets need ample amount of water just like humans do. Water can do a lot to maintain the normal pH level of urine and can help flush out unwanted organisms in the bladder. Lack of water can lead to the accumulation of bacteria which can cause infections in the bladder and urinary tract. Start giving your dog ample amount of clean water everyday to help boost his overall health. And remember, do not just give the animal any kind of water, especially tap water. Give it filtered water. Tap water may contain contaminants that can threaten the pet’s health.

How can you know if the problem with your dog is indeed bladder infection? This is quite simple. You may simply look for signs and symptoms that are associated with bladder infection. These symptoms have been mentioned on the second paragraph of this article.

What are examples of unhygienic habits? Not cleaning the animal’s meal and water bowls daily and not bathing the pet with soap and water regularly are examples of unhygienic habits. Bacteria and other contaminants could build up in the dog’s meal and water bowls and if these are not cleaned, chances are the pet may get in contact with the bacteria as he eats and drinks. Regular bathing is important as well because it helps flush out bacteria that may enter the body through the outer urinary orifices.

Dietary change, natural supplements, ample amount of clean water and homeopathic remedies can be used together to ensure optimum health of your dog. Together, these natural treatments can help cure and prevent the recurrence of canine enlarged bladder.

Canine Chiropractic Relieved Resolving Pekingese’s Muscle Spasm Problem With Pet Chiropractic

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 12:12 pm

Clyde, my Pekingese began limping after the vet we had been seeing for several years closed for the weekend. Before deciding whether to visit the emergency vet clinic in the next morning, I tucked him in for the evening and checking on Clyde’s condition, which somehow helped. Since the rates were so out of sight compared to our regular vet, I tried to avoid the emergency clinic in town. Animal Chiropractic

Come Saturday morning, Clyde was better but not 100%. Until I could feel the muscles relax, I spent some time massaging him again, taking care to hold pressure on trigger points. I didn’t worry too much since Clyde seemed calm.

But early Monday morning, Clyde’s muscles tightened up again and then he threw up a thick white substance that truly alarmed me. While typing keyword phrases into a search engine and started looking for clues about what might be wrong, I held his tiny body close. The name “Dr. Ava Frick” and “Ava Frick, DVM” kept popping up in the search engine results, so I visited her web site and then made a call to her clinic.

I was really impressed when Dr. Frick was able to squeeze us into her schedule immediately. I got the impression that her staff cared about their patients just as much as Dr.Frick did. Dr. Frick conducted an examination to determine what might be wrong after taking Clyde’s complete medical history. She commenced canine chiropractic treatments immediately and then made next schedules for succeeding treatments.

Most importantly, Clyde’s treatment made him relaxed and comfortable. Although I had never heard of the concept of using chiropractic techniques on animals, I am so glad that I found someone who knew exactly how to solve Clyde’s pain.

My little boy would need a few more chiropractic visits to keep this condition from becoming chronic, but Dr. Frick said that we had made it through the rough part. Animal Joint Pain

Auto Transport Companies: Assisting Pets Handle Moving

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 3:12 am

Pets are much like babies when you are tackling a move, and they will possibly have some difficulty facing the transformations that moving often brings with it. At the same time, your pets cannot consult you, and you will find their odd behavior complicated to manage while everything else in your life is going rather chaotic. Due to this, it is important that you take some time to prepare for what will happen when you relocate, and how you will manage your pets during the process. Preparation will make this period in your lives much simpler for everyone involved, no despite if you are employing auto transport companies or any other moving companies for the relocation.

Smaller pets are much simpler to relocate, as you normally just have to pack them in a travel cage and fill up their larger cage in the moving truck. You still must ready these animals, however, so that they have all that they necessitate for the duration of the move. Don’t forget to hold food and water available, as well as any medicines or environmental requirements that they will possibly have while their main cage is in the moving truck. Stuff a travel package with all of these items, and keep it near your animal always. This will make the transition a little bit simpler.

Larger pets necessitate more setting up and deliberation. Dogs and cats could simply be moved, but you must prepare earlier so that you are prepared on moving day. First, you must provide a place for your pet that is protected while the doors are being opened and closed on moving day. Professionals suggest a room that has already been emptied. Don’t forget to place a message on the door so that no one goes in the room on moving day. The last concern that you necessitate on this chaotic day is a pet to get outside and lose your way. Not only would such a circumstance be traumatic, but it would as well produce a huge irritation when you must stop what you are accomplishing to go looking for them.

Despite where you are transferring, or what kind of pet you are carrying with you, planning and orderliness will make the moving process much simpler than if you merely took concerns as they happen. Make sure that you are prepared for the huge day with everything that your pet needs, and you will be able to tackle the pressure and transformation that transferring places on both of you much simpler. Relocating with an animal does not have to be an annoyance, and you do not have to search for your animal a different house. Instead, take note of these things and take pleasure in your move.

Dog Crates and Kennels - A True Advantage for Owners and Dogs Alike

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 2:34 am

Dogs, like people, like to have an area they can make their own. This is possible for them with kennels and dog crates. It is more usual to use kennels when your dog is outside the house and crates when your dog is indoors. If your furry friend is going to stay outdoors for long stretches of time, and especially if you do not have a fenced-in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your furry friend secure and at ease. The size of the kennel will depend on how large your pet is, and do not forget to take into account (if your dog isn’t yet full grown) how large your dog will eventually get. A large number of people choose either a galvanized steel kennel or a wire mesh kennel for external use. You have options for the ground covering ranging from the original soil in your yard to gravel to a concrete slab. Take into consideration that if your furry friend likes to dig, they might be able to dig beneath the kennel and break free if you opt for dirt or sand. It is also good to put some sort of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarp that you can fasten down is an effective selection or you may decide to go with a shingle roof. It will depend on how much cash you are prepared to pay out.

Kennels and dog crates are available in various shapes and forms but a good illustration of a kennel is the Jewett-Cameron Champion dog kennel for roughly $200. It is easy to assemble and it is designed for convenience, safety and long life. It is made of galvanized steel that offers rust protection and it will also protect your furry friend from stray dogs and wild animals. A tarp could easily be located over the top of the kennel. Its dimensions are 4 feet high by 5 feet long x 5 feet wide. If you need something bigger Jewett-Cameron offers a kennel that is 6 feet high by 5 feet wide x 10 feet long and costs roughly $400. It has the same good characteristics as the other kennel but it gives your pet more space to relax.

Dog crates also come in steel but, also, you will come across them in plastic, canvas and wood. These work better inside your home and will provide your pet an area that they know belongs to them where they feel secure. They are also good for moving your furry friend to vet visits and for other travel purposes. A lot of the wood crates are built to resemble an item of furniture and they can be made to blend in with your decor and even used as a coffee table. They begin at roughly $200. The wire crates begin at about sixty dollars, as do the canvas crates. On the less expensive side, you’ll find cheap dog crates made with plastic that cost about $40 but, not surprisingly, the cost will depend not just on the size of your furry friend but also on the features that you require.

Kennels and dog crates can be a serious advantage to both you and your puppy. For outdoors, they have an area where they are safe and you can feel confident leaving them knowing they are in a contained area and happy. For inside, both your pet dog will be happy knowing they have an area to make their own where they can retreat and feel safe and at ease.

Dog Training Obedience - Is Your Dog Angry?

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 5:06 pm

When a dog growls, it is an indication that he is uncomfortable in a specific situation, whatever reasons that may be. As a dog owner, you can observe this behavior and discover what types of things tend to bother your dog or puppy. This makes a great opportunity for you to condition him to better relax during these situations.

Many times it is the advancement of another animal or human being that will make your dog growl. And if this growl is heeded and the person does move away from it, the dog will drop the desire to continue its dramatic behavior because he appeared to have gotten his point across. It really is just another form of communication that canines use.

Suppose for a minute that your child approaches your dog while it is laying down and it turns his head slowly away while growling at a low tone.

Many dog owners take this behavior personally. They tend to punish their dog or puppy whenever it growls at them. This is a big mistake and could lead to potentially greater behavior problems down the road.

All you are doing in this situation is blocking the dog’s most important way of communication. If you continue this practice then sometime in the near future, the dog may not be courteous enough to give such a warning growl and may result in immediate snapping or biting.

Children should always be taught this form of communication. They must know that whenever these warning growls are given, it is always best to respect your dog and to move away from it.

Teach your kids to stop doing whatever it is they are doing when a dog growls at them. Running away is not advised. They should calmly retreat to a distance that is safe, but do it SLOWLY. And advise your kids to let you know exactly what happened so that you can use this information to continue training your dog the obedience skills it needs.

Equine Arthritis Pain And Depression Reduced By Electronic Current Therapy

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 1:06 am

Tuxedo is adorable and such a loving little guy. In his younger days, he was very active and seemed to enjoy the training that we did together, including running and going through tunnels. Along with being adorable, Tuxedo often gave me fits because he was such a pro at making messes and destroying things at my apartment – couch pillows, designer shoes, expensive throw rugs. Name it. If it was within Tuxedo’s reach or he was able to jump onto a piece of furniture and make it within his reach, he attacked it. Pet Chiropractic

I sat down the computer to look for answers online when Tuxedo destroyed a very sentimental item from my childhood. What causes this dog to be hyper? What was it that was tormenting this little soul into making messes each day and costing me so much money? I have been longing peacefulness and sense of calm for Tuxedo.

As Tuxedo grew older, he did calm down a bit. But then, he appears to pick up a new trouble. I noticed symptoms of Tuxedo having stiff joints. I sat down at the computer once more, searching for a list of signs and symptoms that might give me a firm answer since I wasn’t sure if he was in pain or not. I wanted to do whatever I could to make sure he was comfortable because I hated the idea of knowing that he is suffering from pain.

The stiffness meant that Tuxedo had trouble getting around. During the day, he cannot perform the small set of doggy steps next to my bed to reach his favorite spot to nap in the sunshine. Knowing that he might be depressed would really break my heart.

Then I find myself researching online again. It sure is better than searching in our local libraries, which were limited. I discovered Midwest Microcurrent, a veterinary clinic that uses electronic current (also known as cranial electrotherapy stimulation) to reduce or eliminate many symptoms that pets might suffer from while searching for what might be troubling Tuxedo and how we could resolve the issues,

Our initial appointment with Dr. Ava Frick and her team provided a diagnosis of canine arthritis and depression for Tuxedo. Although I was alarmed upon hearing this, I was then relieved to know that with the diagnosis in hand, we were ready to move forward on a journey toward healing.

Dr. Frick elaborated that I could continue Tuxedo’s treatment session at home by getting our own Alpha-Stim machine once we start Alpha-Stim microcurrent treatments at her clinic. This will free me from the one-hour drive to the clinic everyday.

I am thankful to Dr, Frick and the staff at Midwest Microcurrent for giving the old Tuxedo back to me. Animal Arthritis

Getting Restful Nights Again: The Dog Bark Collar

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 1:21 am

Barking is a natural aspect of a dog’s behavior, and they do so either in defense, fear or offence. It is when barking becomes too loud or happens at very inconvenient times that it becomes a real problem. You may be familiar with this situation if you have a dog that just won’t stop barking, keeping everybody awake at night. The intensity and frequency of barking can be as varied as the different dog breeds there are, with some dog breeds having a louder bark than others; still, it’s your duty to do what it takes to make sure your dog doesn’t bother the people around you. You can optto train your dog yourself, pay someone else to train it for you, or just get a dog bark collar

Out of all the options available, the best way to reduce dog barkng is by getting a dog bark collar for your pet. Pet supply stores will usually offer you three basic types of anti bark collars: these are the citronella bark collar, the electric or shock collar, and the ultrasound or ultrasonic collar. All three types of anti bark collars are effective and produce long term results, so it’s a matter of personal preference to decide which one you should get.

The Citronella Collar

This dog bark collar is designed to automatically spray the dog with Citronella each time it barks. Citronella emits a strong scent and is one of the main ingredients used in many perfume products. However, dogs dislike the odor of citronella, which is why this collar is very effective.

The Electronic Shock Collar

This collar is one of the most well known ones. The collar is programmed to detect excessive barking and correcting the dog by delivering a small electric shock, much like the one you get when you handle fabric. After the first bark, the collar will give the dog another, more intense shock after 30 seconds if the dog continues to bark; this is because a dog’s skin is more resistant than a human’s and it might not have felt the first shock. The collar will continue to increase the intensity of the shocks until it reaches its highest level, at which point it will shut down to avoid harming the dog, who is probably trying to communicate something urgently.

The Ultrasound Collar

The ultrasound or ultrasonic collar corrects the dog’s barking by emiting a sound that only dogs can hear. This collar’s advantage is that the sound it uses is harmless to the dog and doesn’t add more noise to the dog’s barking.

By spending a bit on a dog bark collar, you’ll be contributing to the peace and quiet of the place you live in. Your dog’s barking won’t go totally away, as it’s part of its nature, but it will become much more tolerable.
