The Three Basics Of Basic Dog Training

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 1:07 pm

First of all, believing that your dog can be trained is one of the biggest hurdles a dog owner will face to avoid dog health problems. Once you have accepted this challenge then the basics of dog training can begin. Your new puppy, dog or older dog can be trained by either an obedience instructor or yourself. There are many good books on dog obedience, so researching and finding one that suits you and your dog’s needs can be very beneficial. It is also less expensive than hiring a trainer to teach your dog the basic training commands.

Three Basic Commands

There are simple and basic commands in basic dog training. These three commands are: sit, stay and come. To teach your dog to sit, you will need some dog treats. Dogs respond to their training much more willingly when treats are used as rewards. Your ‘sit’ training needs to be done in a quiet area where your dog cannot get distracted. Hold the treat over his head and tell him to sit. Repeat this over and over as consistency is the key in basic dog training. Your dog will look up and may sit on his own to reach the treat. If he doesn’t react on his own, then gently push his bottom down. Every time he sits, be sure and reward him with the treat and praise him. This training will work because the dog will hear “sit” and associate it with sitting and receiving rewards.

The next basic of dog training, is teaching your dog to stay. This is usually the most difficult command to teach. This basic command should be combined with the come command. Put your dog in an area with no directions. Start backing away from your dog while constantly telling him to stay. Always keep eye contact with your dog. If he gets up, tell him “no” and then start the process again. It takes a lot of patience with basic dog training. Once this process has been achieved, then turn your back and begin walking away. Your dog will naturally get up and follow you, so again say “no” and start the process over again by tell your dog to stay as you walk away from him. After your dog has mastered this part of the basic dog training, then you can tell him to come. Use a happy voice and pat your knee as you say “come.” Your dog should respond to this command right away and you should reward him with a treat and praise.

Remember to always use praise and not punishment when using basic dog training. Dogs always respond better to positive reinforcement and makes them Healthy Dog. Don’t forget that patience and consistency will reward you in the end, as your dog will have mastered basic dog training and the both of you will live happily ever after.

How Your Dog Can Teach Your Kid Responsibility

Dogs & Kids – Dogs Teach Responsibility to Your Little Ones

There are too many families out there that do not have a family dog as a pet. This is an unfortunate situation as there are so many benefits to your family simply by having one. Starting in their younger years, a puppy can truly bring in a whole new atmosphere of love and caring into a household as well as increasing the general well-being of the whole household.

What’s more important is that dogs are also an enormous benefit to children of all ages. Owning a dog is a great way to engage your kids in the process of responsibility. Teaching your children to be responsible is probably one of the most important aspects of being a parent. And why not have a little help in this department with the assistance of a brand-new puppy?

The moment that the puppy is brought into the home, a whole new list of responsibilities follow and while ultimately you are responsible for the livelihood of the puppy, pushing off some of the responsibilities to your children will help them to grow up strong-willed and responsible adults. Furthermore, with all of the hours that you and your partner spend at work, this serious cuts down on family time which is where a dog will also help out; by being there when you cannot.

How can a dog help kids become more responsible?

To put it as simple as possible, managing a dog’s daily life is no easy task, but when this chore is divided amongst your children, the work becomes more like play to both your children as well as the puppy. Your child will learn to feed the dog as well as walk and play with him. They will need to give the dog a bath and keep them clean as well as the dog’s favorite haunts in the home.

For a child, taking care of a dog is all fun and games. The good point is that while this may all seem like fun and games, it is teaching your child a valuable lesson about responsibility for another life and as such, these behaviors of responsibility will also spread into their own personal life as well. Most of all, the children will feel as if they are fully responsible for the dog’s health and each and every time you take the dog to the vet along with the kids, tell them that the dog is healthy and loved because of them. This all goes hand-in-hand and the outcome is always great.

The Benefits Of Beagle Potty Training

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 12:30 am

Many people assume that when Beagle potty training doesn’t go well or that it takes too long that it is the fault of the dog or the breed of the dog. But generally this is not the case and owners need to take a look at how they are training the puppy. It is important that without fail, the puppy is given direct training guidelines that you are the owner will carry out one hundred percent of the time.

If the puppy has an accident, it is important not to get angry and it is best to not even say a word. Just clean up the mess and keep on the Beagle training path that you have set forth. If done properly by the owner, potty training should only take a few weeks at the most. There is no reason for it to take long unless the owner is not following through all of the time. If the training fails it is not because the puppy isn’t listening to the owner, but yet because the owner was not following through with the training steps all of the time.
During the Beagle potty training period, it is best that the puppy is not left alone to wander the house with no one watching. This is generally when accidents happen. As the owner, you must keep a watchful eye on your puppy day and night without fail. Also, do not leave food and water out for your puppy to nibble at all day long. This leads to more accidents then anything else. Control the meal times and make sure you let your puppy out five or ten minutes after they have finished their meal.

You also will want to take your puppy out every hour to the place where you allow them to go potty. Even though they did not just eat, they may still find they have to go. After they do, praise the puppy greatly so he or she understands that is the behavior that makes you happy. This Beagle training can be done at any age whether the puppy is still a young one or has grown into an adult dog. It is never too late to potty train. Even an already potty trained dog may need retraining later down the road.
Being positive during the Beagle potty process is not only a hard thing to do at times but it is also one of the most important things you can do to ensure all goes well. Never scold your puppy for their mistakes, as you do not want them to end up being afraid of you. You want your bond with your puppy to be a pleasant one so if a mistake does happen, simply clean it up without saying anything and then give praise when they do right.

They want to please you and soon will be seeking ways to make sure they get the kind gestures and words from you. Believe it or not, animals can suffer from emotional problems, which is often caused by fearing their owners. This fear can result in even more accidents inside the home. And since you are working on avoiding these accidents, it is best to make sure your puppy respects you instead of fearing you.

There is an easy solution to what was thought of as hassle. Beagle Training can be simple and this article strives to make sure that everyone has the information needed to make that happen. Reading this article should make Beagle potty training easy for everyone no matter what level of experience they have with dogs. If you are searching for tips on successful Beagle potty training, you will find information here that isn’t present in many other dog training books.

Dog Potty Training: Gentle Ways Of Housebreaking Your Dog

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 10:47 am

The first few days with your dog and House Breaking a Dog are very crucial. Although some dogs easily adjust to their new environment, there are many dogs that are rather slow in learning new things. According to many experts, one of the most challenging issues that you will face with your little rascal is dog potty training. Make not mistakes about it, dog potty training can be a bit tricky and things could really get very irritating especially when your little rascal starts messing around the house. In most cases, it will take some time and a lot of patience on your part before your little dog will finally learn where and how to potty.

Training Your Dog

Dog potty training doesn’t have to be very stressful for you and your pet and create Dog Diseases. The best way to start things right is to ask the breeder what time the puppy usually eats and what time it usually need to potty. The amount of food and the regular eating time of your puppy can help you determine the time when your puppy has to go potty. Note that when conducting dog potty training, you will need to closely supervise your pet during the training period. You can only effectively supervise you puppy if you are able to correctly gauge when your pet needs to go potty.

During dog potty training, it is important for you to accompany your puppy outside when it is time for it to go potty. Note that puppies has the tendency to simply play in the yard instead of doing their thing so make sure that your puppy does what it is supposed to do. Furthermore, it is important that when you take your puppy outside to go potty, you take it to the same spot all the time. Puppies learn faster if the act is constant and is repeated often. Establish a pattern and do not deviate from it so that your puppy will not get disoriented.

Solving A Lot Of The Common Boston Terrier Problem Behaviors

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 7:54 am

When thinking about bringing home any particular breed, you are going to want to make sure that the personality and the problems that may come along with the dog are things that you can handle and get past. And when thinking about the Boston Terrier, you are going to really want to stop and think about what Boston Terrier problem behaviors you are more in likely going to deal with. Making sure that you truly understand what you are going to face will make sure that you do not make the wrong decision.

By putting proper Boston Terrier training into action, you will give yourself a better chance at avoiding some nasty problems but you are never completely safe from everything. Make sure that you check out some local dog obedience classes around your area or stock up on some of the newest in dog training books in order to learn as much as you possibly can. The more knowledge you have, the better your chances are at completely controlling the situation.
When trying to think about what exactly it is that the adorable little puppy could do, first you need to establish your game plan when it comes to training. What you will be or will not be training on will have a lot to do with what problems are going to arise. A dog that does not get potty trained of course will not give the owner any of the Boston Terrier problem behaviors towards potty training.

You want to figure out what it is exactly that you are going to expect from your dog and what you hope he or she will achieve. Try not to set the goals too high though, because if your puppy is not able to meet your standards you may get upset and when the owner is upset, the dog will be upset. Try to keep focused but do not forget that your little dog will make mistakes and it is okay every now and then.
Something that needs to be kept in mind is that just because a pup is experiencing some of or a lot of the typical Boston Terrier problem behaviors, does not mean that he or she is a bad dog. It does not mean that they are wrong or that you need to get rid of him or her. It is natural for every dog, no matter the breed, to experience some degree of problem behaviors and it is up to the owner to solve the situation.

Generally speaking, when a dog is always having problems with their behavior, it is the lack of proper training on part of the owner that is the problem and the reason behind it all. And when it comes to this particular breed, it is the potty training that is the biggest problem simply because the Boston Terrier likes to not listen. And since no potty training habits are a bad thing when your floors are concerned, it is important that you are strict and firm with your training.

When there is proper Boston Terrier training enforced, you are less likely to experience a lot of the common problem behaviors. Also, when wanting to take care of or prevent Boston Terrier problem behaviors, check out some dog training books, as they are often an excellent source for what to do to properly train your dog.

Golden Retriever: Keeping Him Focused

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 3:34 am

There is no doubt that every Golden Retriever must be trained, this includes potty training that teaches a puppy to understand where as well as when he should eliminate. Unfortunately, without proper Golden Retriever training and more particularly Golden Retriever puppy training, puppies will eliminate whenever the urge overcomes them, and thus it is up to dog owners to bridge the gap and teach them the proper way of relieving themselves.

To succeed with Golden Retriever potty training there are a few essential steps you will need to take including using methods such as confining the movements of the Golden Retriever, properly training him, timing when he should eliminate and praising him when he successfully eliminates in the appropriate place. The first thing that you need to consider is to confine your puppy or dog so that potty training can be made simpler, and the crate or cage is the best as well as most effective place in which to confine the Golden.
You should also consider crate training your Golden Retriever and not shy away from using this technique, which in fact is recommended, as it will show your pet the proper place for relieving himself. You also need to make it abundantly clear that this is the place where he is not supposed to relieve himself and he must be taught to recognize his crate as being the wrong place to defecate. However, the crate should not be large enough for him to use one end for eliminating and the other end for sleeping.

Every time the Golden Retriever does the right thing and eliminates where he is supposed to, you should encourage him, praise him and also give him a small treat by way of reward so that he recognizes the need to eliminate in the designated place. In addition, you need to give him some slack and not expect instant results because it will take time before he can assimilate his Golden Retriever potty training instructions. And, when he is shown how not to mess up in the wrong places, he will cause fewer accidents and in fact, learn from his errors.
It is certainly a good idea to use the confinement method when doing Golden Retriever potty training and in this technique, you have to restrict the movement of your Golden so that he learns the proper housebreaking rules. It will mean having to keep a watchful eye on where the Golden Retriever is and what he is doing, and to also show him a way out of the home where he can go and do his potty. Sometimes, you can even succeed in the Golden Retriever training by placing a newspaper or litter box inside the home where he can then be taught to relieve himself, especially when he is unable or unwilling to go out and do his business.

No doubt, Golden Retriever potty training is a time consuming activity and it will only have a better chance of succeeding if you allow your dog plenty of time in which to adjust his habits and to also be extra patient with him, especially when accidents take place. In the end, you should see the results begin to show up and your pet will then know where to go to relieve him without needing further guidance.

The purpose of this article is to provide useful insights into what proper Golden Retriever training is and how to go about it. There is a lot of information available as to how best to do Golden Retriever training, and for more details you can even read up on dog training books.

Outdoor Dog Kennel Flooring: Extra Protection For Your Dog

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 7:16 am

Many people buy kennels for their new puppy to be used in a variety of ways. They can be used as a way to keep your furniture from turning into chew toys, to train the dog, or to discipline them by using the kennel as a method of ‘time-out.’

Dog Haven

Some people even use the kennels outside as a haven for their dog outdoors. However, with outdoor kennels, dogs aren’t protected from the elements while they’re in their dog kennels. If the grass is cold or wet, the dog is forced to lay on it through the metal mesh of the kennel, making the dog more susceptible to bacteria and illness. To combat this problem, many companies are now offering outdoor dog kennel flooring.

Comfort and Durability

Outdoor dog kennel flooring sits on the bottom of the dog’s kennel and acts as a surface that the dog can comfortably lay on to avoid dog diseases. If the grass is cold or wet, the dog won’t be uncomfortable. Many outdoor dog kennel flooring products are made of a sponge-like material, which means their durable and easy to clean. This makes outdoor dog kennel flooring a must for anyone who keeps their dog in a kennel while it’s outdoors.

No More Holes in Your Yard

Another advantage of outdoor dog kennel flooring is that the dog will no longer be able to dig holes in your yard. Sometimes, with older model outdoor kennels, the dog would get bored or anxious and try to get out. With outdoor dog kennel flooring this is impossible. Because the flooring is durable, your dog won’t be able to dig its way through. The material is tough enough to withstand digging, while it’s also made to be comfortable enough for your dog to lie on.

Outdoor dog kennel flooring is available wherever dog kennels are sold. There are both indoor and outdoor flooring, however, outdoor dog kennel flooring should be considered by anyone who has a dog who must be kept in a kennel outside. They aren’t that expensive, and it’s worth it when you consider all the time you’ll save filling in holes in your backyard or even in vet bills from your dog getting ill from sleeping on wet, cold grass. Make the investment and search for some outdoor flooring for your pet to avoid dog health problems. Your dog will thank you for it.

A Writer Feels Connected To Top Dog Kennel

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 4:42 am

When a writer in California began to search for information about Top Dog Kennel and buying a dog, she was surprised to learn about one source of the kennel’s puppies. According to the kennel’s website, some of the puppies at Top Dog Kennel came from Bow Wow Pits in California. The writer is now wondering if any of the puppies on sale at Top Dog Kennel are related to a Pit-bull named Princess.

Top Dog’s Pictures Stir-up Memories

The Top Dog website indicates that most of its dogs are “blues.” Still, the website makes a point of claiming to have brindles, fawns, reds, and blacks as well. The California writer remembers well a black pit-bull named Princess that lived in the writer’s backyard for several months.

The website for Top Dog Kennel has provided the California writer with some unexpected information. She has now discovered that Princess might have come from a special line of pit-bulls, a line called “Razor Edge.” She was not surprised to read that those pits had large bones and well-toned muscles. She could still remember the strength of the muscles in that puppy named Princess.

The writer would agree with at least one comment on the website of Top Dog Kennel. That comment stated that the Razor Edge pits had an “excellent temperament.” The writer had always felt comfortable in making contact with Princess, even when she had had to chase the dog back into her small backyard.

In fact, it was that chasing experience that had caused the writer to speak with her son about finding a new home for Princess for dog exercising. She has been told that Princess now runs around in a much larger yard, yet the writer has not forgotten her fondness for Princess. The writer can almost see Princess’s expression in the expression of Justice and Echo, two dogs apparently from Bow Wow Pits.

The writer has seen those pictures on the website for Top Dog Kennel, and also noticed the picture of a dog named Blacky. That dog, too, stirred-up memories of the pit-bull puppy that used to eat, sleep, and play in the writer’s backyard.

The writer did not find much information coming from Top Dog Kennel about the jumping abilities of its pit-bulls and dog bathing needs. The writer will never forget the height to which that puppy could jump. The writer wonders how high the adult Princess has managed to jump in her new home.

How To Control Your Dog’s Barking Habit

If your dog is not trained to bark only at the appropriate times (as a warning sign, when he detects strange situations, disturbance outside the window, or when strangers are intruding), you and your dog may become a nuisance to the whole neighborhood. Dogs need physical and mental stimulation as well as companionship, it is rare for a dog to have a pack leader mentality, most are comfortable and feel very safe and secure following their leader, which is you.

Every dog, like every person has its own distinct personality, this causes the difference in their ability to be trained, how intelligent they are and how much patience they have during their training. Barking is as a means of communication for the dog just like whining, howling and growling, but too much barking can create distress and unnecessary pressure on you and your neighbors. As you can see, it goes beyond dog behavior issues.

Several people have reported that one of the most annoying noises is the sound of a dog baking continuously.

While dog’s barking can be disturbing, it is desired that your dog bark to alert you and your neighbors of any possible territorial invasion.

If you train your dog properly he/she will bark as a warning that initially tells the dog owner about the present problem or any intruder that is trying to enter the vicinity. Knowledge is more important than dog exercise pen.

To train your dog to bark when your safety/security is at stake, do the following steps:

1. Tie his leash to a fence or any other fixed item. Stand approximately 3 feet away and tease him with a toy or food, as he begins to bark, give the reward.

2. Use verbal praise as a treat replacing the food whenever he starts to bark. The command guard should be commanded as soon as the dog barks.

3. The timing is indispensable here, watching his body language, you can tell when he’s ready to bark.

4. Once he becomes cognizant of the guard command, give the quiet command when he’s barking; give the reward as soon as he quits barking. If the barking carries on, give the no command. When he’s successfully learned the command, move farther away and carry on the training.

5. After this training is successful, untie him from the fence and continue to train him the commands guard and quiet. You and your neighbors will appreciate this training when they have a peaceful night, and they will learn that if he is barking, there is something wrong.

If your dog continues to bark excessively, then it is possible that one of the following is taking place:

1. Dogs typically bark when prompted by something or someone or some kind of stimulus.

Some of these stimuli are: the sound of other dogs barking, the rumbling sound of thunder or machineries, ringing phones, people shouting, and many other noises that may trigger your dog to barks.

If this is the case, one of the fastest and easiest ways to stop your dog from barking is to simply remove the stimulus.

2. Your dog may continue barking when he is restricted to a specific spot. If this is the case, your dog may be undergoing separation anxiety feeling.

If this is the case, you can provide him with a few toys to keep him busy while confine to that particular place or what you can do is to take him for an exercise or walk by the park. This will help him overcome the separation anxiety.

3. If your dog is aggressive, then it might just be possible that he or she may bark at the minimum indication of irritation such as an unfamiliar person walking pass your property.

In this case an enhancement of the environment may be needed.

4. Other ways which may help your dogs from excessive barking include intervention such as spraying your dog with water or using high frequency sounds that interrupt barking. These devices can be quite helpful and can be controlled by you or automatically when the dog barks.

5. I personally do not really agree with de-barking your dog and the use of shock collar. I believe that with good training drills, you will be able to solve the barking problems.

Dog training requires patience, money and time, however doing it correctly will create a more lasting and meaningful relationship with the owner.
