Like everybody else, we all enjoy a healthy horse. One way to have a strong horse is with quality food. Also, your horse has to get feed with a good horse nutrition adapted to its breed in order to be healthy. Selecting the diet that is appropriate for him is the first step. The proper diet depends on the required nutrients of the specific category of horse.

Veterinarians and farmers mix these ingredients to come up with the required horse nutrition nutrient content for that horse category. Of course, the horse owner has a say on the ingredients. The owner can choose the right amount of roughage for the horse with the guidance of the farmer.

Pasture or other type of harvested roughage has to be contain in a horse’s basic nutrition diet. The energy intake and the digestive tract fill is determined by playing up the distribution of roughage and its concentrates. It also prevents dysfunctions in the digestive system. Plus, it regulates the horse’s consumption of feeds.

The most important fact in feeding horses is that , every day, they must be fed at least 1% of their total weight. This allows them to use up 2 to 2.5% of their body mass in an interval of 24 hours.

When feeding adult horses, the energy requirements are lower than the stated figures. It can be done by feeding them with roughages that are of good-quality. The supplement needed in adult horses is salt. This is a balanced mineral supplement.
