A Guide to Transporting Animals During a Relocation by Using Truck Rentals

Filed under: Pets — AquaMan @ 4:26 am

Relocating is quite hard and can be very stressful. It seems like there are millions of boxes to pack and hours upon hours of cleaning to be done, both at your old location and the new one. In the midst of all this chaos, many people also have to transport their pets. Moving your pets may seem over the top, but don’t get discouraged. However, there are steps you can take to make the process go more smoothly.

One of the biggest things that will determine how your pets will be moved is how you plan on moving your belongings. If you go online, you can choose a moving company If you decide to get a van rental you may run into unforeseen problems and more stress than using a moving company. Using movers, while more expensive than the do-it-yourself route, can take a considerable load off of your mind and allow you to focus more on your animal companions. Whether you decide to get a moving company, or do it yourself, your pets will need to have their needs seen to as well.

When possible, your pets should stay with you while you move. It is very dangerous to leave your pet unattended in the vehicle. The temperature outside may be comfortable to you, but it can turn lethal quickly inside the vehicle. You may want to discuss carsickness with your veterinarian before you decide to move your pets. Talk to your vet about tranquilizers or sedatives if you are concerned about your pet becoming a danger to itself in its nervous state. Playing soothing music quietly on the stereo can also help calm a nervous pet’s nerves.

Pets who are nervous may get sick, no matter how you try to help them settle down. Make sure to bring something to clean up any accidents that may occur, it may otherwise be an uncomfortable for anyone to ride in the car until it is cleaned. There are some truck rentals which will allow pets, but you may have to pay a deposit up front.

With adequate planning and preparation, moving your pets doesn’t have to be a horrible, stressful experience. Your local veterinarian can give you advice, and maybe recommend giving your pet a sedative, if they are too antsy. They will know the safest way to move your pet, while keeping them calm.
